Atins is a small fishing village belonging to the city of Barreirinhas, in Maranhão. One of the places where you can stay to visit Lençóis Maranhenses National Park, Atins is completely away from everything and with a very rustic infrastructure, cell phone signal does not exist and the streets are all soft sand.
It is even unthinkable to suggest that there is a property that is a member of Design Hotels there, but it is in this small village in Maranhão that George's La Ferme was born, with all its charm in the midst of nature and the Brazilianness adopted by its European owners.
The inn is, without a doubt, the best in Atins, with nine chalets spread across the 1.500km² property, close to the entrance to the National Park. Its location and infrastructure add even more to your choice, not to mention its accommodation of at least four people per chalet, which guarantees an even greater cost benefit.
History
La Ferme de Georges is the creation of two Europeans who fell in love with Atins.
The property, which was previously used as accommodation for French and Belgian friends, grew to become the hotel it is today.
With the aim of avoiding impersonality, La Ferme de Georges invites its guests to have a face-to-face encounter with nature on its property surrounded by cashew trees and the natural landscape of the northeast region.
The inn also has two very important lifetime guests: Ipa and Nema, two super friendly Dalmatians who belong to the owners and even accompany some guests on tours of the village.
It is also in this climate that Pierre Bident Moldeva and Olivier Verwilghen, the owners, also created the chain's second property, Chez Georges in Santa Teresa, Rio de Janeiro.
Location
There is not exactly a center in Atins. The village is well spaced and the walk from one end to the other takes around 30 minutes.
Still, La Ferme de Georges has a great location: it is closer to the Lençóis Maranhenses National Park than to the port where boats arrive from Barreirinhas and a 7-minute walk from Atins beach.

Lobby
The most delicious part of the inn, the lobby is where there is a small library and some board games, as well as guitar and ukulele that can be played and hammocks and sofas for guests' comfort. This is also where the property's only wi-fi point is located, one of the best networks in Atins.
Garden
The inn also has a garden full of cashew trees that preserve, as much as possible, all the nature and local beauty. You just need a little attention in the rainy season, because the garden floods a little and you have to be prepared to put your feet in the puddles of water.
Swimming pool
It is in this environment that the swimming pool is also located, surrounded by trees, with a wooden deck. One of the few inns to have this entertainment option, it can be freely used by guests. It's a good option to relax after a full day of walks in the park.
Mini farm
The property also has a large vegetable garden with various organic products that are used in the inn's restaurant.
Rancho Mayrita
Undoubtedly the best restaurant in Atins, you don't have to be a guest to try the dishes served at the La Ferme de Georges restaurant.
The food is all organic, coming directly from the property's mini farm. Without any kind of manipulation, quality and freshness are the main highlight of the dish.
As Atins is a very remote place, everything is a little expensive there. The dishes cost around R$60 – R$70 and it is highly recommended for a special dinner, with great options of dishes.
Still keeping the Brazilianness that the owners had as inspiration when creating the inn, the wines served at the restaurant are also of Brazilian origin and highly recommended.

There are four categories of chalets spread across the 1.500km² property, each hosting at least four people and having their own particularities.
All were built with locally reused wood and thatched roof, giving a very Balinese touch to the open accommodations to enjoy the fresh breeze and natural ventilation.
There is no air conditioning in the cottages, but a fan. The only problem is during the rainy season, when a lot of mosquitoes enter. For this, all are equipped with mosquito nets that must be used very well and fastened under the beds to avoid being bitten at night.

Dunes Chalets

Closer to the lobby, they are surrounded by the property's grassy gardens and awe-inspiring cashew trees.
Park Chalets
Ideal for families, these chalets have two bedrooms with a divider between the double bedroom and the single beds. Each of them accommodates up to 5 people.

Tree Cottage
The only one with a 360º view, Chalé das Árvores is on top of a dune with a tower in the bungalow from where you can watch the sunset. Entirely made of wood, it is the largest on the property.
