Built in 1864, the hotel has passed through several generations and today combines the modern with the traditional. Find out what it's like to stay at this hotel with our columnist Diego Imai.
Basel it was my second destination on the trip through Switzerland, an innovative, lively and multicultural city. a train coming from Zurich dropped me off at the city's central station. To improve my arrival, I discovered that the Hotel Schweizerhof was practically on the doorstep. Basel Central Station, literally a minute's walk away.
Built in 1864, it was sold to a family in 1896 and remains today for four generations. It underwent a renovation between 2006 and 2009, today it offers a very pleasant atmosphere combining its old base with the new post restoration.

Hotel
The location is great. even if outside historical Center, access is super easy. The hotel is clean and well organized. The service is also good, even though two of the attendants were not very friendly, but even so they responded with practicality when I asked for information. The small and well-appointed room, wide corridors and a very tasty breakfast.
Directions
As it is right next to the central station, the hotel's location is a handy asset for those who are visiting the city and looking for where to stay in basel. The walk to the historic center is also super easy, in about ten minutes you can get there.
To make it even better, when you check in, the hotel gives you the “transport card”, which allows you to use all public transport in the city for free. This is an incredible initiative by hotels in Switzerland.
However, for those arriving by car, the hotel has five parking spaces. However, it is not possible to reserve the few spaces. You have to be lucky to get one for yourself. Otherwise, there is a parking lot three minutes away that charges 23 Swiss Francs (about 80 reais) per night for hotel guests.
Address: Centralbahnplatz 1 – P.O. Box CH 4002 Basel.
Check –In
It was super practical and fast, check-in time is from 14:00 pm (but if the rooms are already available, there is no problem to anticipate it). Check-out is before noon.
Breakfast
Breakfast is included in your rate on weekdays and weekends and you can opt for reservations without coffee included. If you wish to pay for breakfast separately, 25CHF per person is charged (approximately 90 reais), with an additional 10CHF if you want coffee in your room (which is served 24 hours a day).
Coffee is served from 6:30 am to 10:00 am on weekdays and from 7:00 am to 11:00 am on weekends and holidays.
A very tasty and varied buffet, with cold cuts and different cheeses, some hot dishes such as sausages, bacon and eggs, also two types of fish, one of which is smoked salmon, which I love. Lots of fruits, juices and also cereals with yogurts, in addition to the traditional coffees to drink.
Laundry
The hotel also offers a paid laundry service, and if your clothes are delivered before 9:00 am, you will receive them at the end of the day.
Bar Restaurant
The Hotel does not have a restaurant but it has a bar in the lobby where you can find snacks 24 hours a day, but in the same building as the hotel you will find a restaurant that serves Asian food, I ended up not trying it to give you an opinion. In the vicinity of the hotel you will find other restaurants, as well as supermarkets and also fast foods such as McDonalds and BurgerKing.
rooms
In addition to television with international channels, telephone and internet, the rooms are equipped with a desk for work, a mini bar, equipment for making tea and coffee, as well as a safe for your money and important belongings. The bathroom is clean with a very spacious shower, the bed is also big and comfortable.
In conclusion, the hotel is very good in terms of structure, location and services, it cannot be compared to a five star hotel, but for being three stars, it is to be congratulated.
