We stayed in Sausalito at Cavallo Point Lodge, an amazing luxury hotel! It is right next to the Golden Gate Bridge in the National Park Area. In addition to being a property full of history, the view is always beautiful.

The History of Cavallo Point Lodge

The luxury resort is located in the Golden Gate National Parks at Fort Baker, right next to the bridge that bears the name. Fort Baker served as a US military post in the mid-1900s, and was home to many soldiers and army officers. Cavallo Point Lodge was built to restore, enhance and preserve Fort Baker for generations to come.

The name “Cavallo” is part of the history of San Francisco Bay, when a rocky point near Fort Baker was named “Punta de Caballo” by the captain of one of the first European ships that arrived in the bay and the name stuck.

The resort has 3 types of accommodation: chalet-type rooms, family residence and suites.

Os cottages they were part of the former Fort Baker and were the former residences of soldiers and officers. We stayed in one of these cottages. We were welcomed with a red wine from the region and chocolates, all with great luxury and affection. The rooms have all been restored to maintain the local history with many period details such as old telephones, ceiling decoration and some objects.

The accommodations are spacious, with warm paint and decor, a large bed with impeccable organic bedding and a gas fireplace. The chalets also have a living room with a fireplace, ideal for receiving friends for a wine and a shared veranda with beautiful rocking chairs for a good chat.

Tip for families:

The family home is called The Frank House, ideal for small groups. The house has two floors, has two bedrooms, a gas fireplace in the living room and an equipped kitchen. The balcony is all enclosed in glass overlooking the San Francisco Bay.

The apartments are the “new” area of Cavallo Point and are located above the chalets, in the highest part of the resort. The apartments have suites with contemporary decor, with a clean look and clear paintings that relax and make your stay even more delicious. Also with fireplaces and picture windows and some overlooking San Francisco Bay.

Breakfast and Restaurant

Breakfast is not included, but the reception offers tea, coffee, Giardelli cappuccino, croissant and fruit. But the restaurant Murray Circle offers a full breakfast, lunch and dinner with local ingredients. The night still has more options, like the Farley Bar, which is a charm, with many choices of wines and cocktails. We ordered a white wine with a beautiful and delicious board of cheeses, breads and salami.

SPA

This is another highlight of Cavallo Point Lodge, the Spa was elected one of the best in the United States. Right at the entrance, the refreshing aromas of eucalyptus will relax you! There you can enjoy a heated and relaxing bath in the outdoor meditation pool, body and facial massages, aromatherapy and healing arts such as acupuncture, meditation, hypnotherapy, among others. The Spa always has a schedule of events and activities at super affordable prices.

It's to leave there refreshed, ready to return to real life!

Check in

Upon arrival, we were greeted very sympathetically by the staff and our bags were promptly removed from the Uber. The receptionist offered us water flavored with green apple and cucumber. She cordially explained to us everything about the hotel and provided us with a map to better locate ourselves. We were taken to our cabin in a golf cart.

Extras

The hotel has a partnership with Lexus. Some cars (sports, SVU and a sedan) are available to guests who can use them for 3 hours, just check availability and schedule. We, of course, opted for the sporty model and went out to explore the surroundings. But if you don't want to risk driving a Lexus, the hotel has free vans that take you to downtown Sausalito.

The hotel also offers Cooking Class, with a wide list of courses and cooking programs, all very well planned. They have a concern for sustainability even in the kitchen, which is a hallmark of the hotel at all points.

Oh, and the hotel even has a beautiful little chapel where weddings are celebrated. Can you imagine how romantic!

Our verdict:

Cavallo Point Lodge was the perfect place to rest and enjoy nature, with the beautiful view of the Golden Gate Bridge and the San Francisco skyline, there's no way not to like it! The strong point are the carefully restored chalets that give a beautiful air to the place, in addition to the huge lawn where you can enjoy the sun and the view, which never tire.

During our stay we met a Brazilian woman from Santos who worked at the hotel. She gave us lots of tips about the hotel and the Sausalito area. I hope she's still working there when you go to see this wonderful place.
