I am the type of person who loves to eat well. When I travel, it's one of the things I do even before I arrive at the destination, I plan the possibilities with my husband and we schedule/book when necessary, after all, eating is one of the experiences we love the most when we travel.
Ghent is home to all kinds of restaurants and the variety of options is one of the things I like most about this city. As it is a city where the tourist regions are centralized, I avoid going and suggesting restaurants in those places, because generally the food is not that good since the public is just passing through, goes once and rarely comes back (I realize that most of the establishments that are located in tourist regions do not care about the quality of what is offered). There are exceptions, however, it is important to research and/or visit to know what is really worthwhile, and that's how I discovered the places I recommend here on the blog or on my Instagram profile.
Below, I will recommend places to eat/drink in Ghent, based on my (good) experiences. For more options of places I already recommended, access the links at the end of this post.
Best places to eat and drink in Ghent
Where to eat and drink in Ghent? - Per Bacchus
The four-course menu suggested by the restaurant is very interesting, but it is also possible to order what you want individually. The food is good and of good quality. The atmosphere is cozy. The service is efficient. The price is good.
For groups of more than ten people there is a different menu.
Address: Sint-Jacobsnieuwstraat 56
Where to eat and drink in Ghent? - Balls & Glory
Unlike anything else I've ever known. Basically, the concept of the restaurant is to serve "meatballs". In the photo, the vegetarian option of the day that I don't remember what it was, stoemp (mashed potato with vegetables) + gravy. It is original and the price is very affordable.
Natural water available for free at the tables.
Address: Jakobijnenstraat 6
Where to eat and drink in Gente? - Yalla Yalla Beirut
An option for those looking for Lebanese food in the center of Ghent. These days, it's my favorite type of cuisine and the restaurant is great. I recommend booking by guarantee.
Address: Donkersteeg 3
Where to eat and drink in Ghent? - Zuru Zuru ramen
My favorite ramen restaurant in Gent. I always order the same one because there is only a vegetarian option, but the taste is sensational and makes me want to come back again and again.
Address: Kortrijksesteenweg 110
Where to eat and drink in Ghent? - Alice's
I confess that the decor is what I like most about the restaurant, hehehe. But the food is also good, especially the dessert options. Breakfast available as well.
Address: Onderbergen 6
Where to eat and drink in Ghent? - Café De Planck
- Café De Planck
The last suggestion is for those looking for a place to sample the beers that are produced in the country. The pub menu offers 125 choices. The ambiance of the place is ideal for slightly warmer and/or sunny days, as it is a boat that stays on one of Ghent's canals. For days with slightly cooler temperatures, it is possible to settle inside the boat, but heaters are also installed in the outdoor environment.
Important information: the establishment does not accept cards (debit/credit) for payment, only cash.
Address: Ter Platen 10A, boat on the canal in front of Kinepolis
