The region of Istria it is divided into two parts, named by the locals themselves as green istria and blue istria. It is in the bluish part of the peninsula that the city of Porec (pronounced “pôretch”) or “parenzo”, the Italian name for it, which is one of the main ones on the Adriatic coast.

If you want to get to know the entire peninsula, I suggest you choose two cities to be your bases and travel the rest by rental car or by agency, as the region is quite small and easy to navigate.

Porec it was my first choice of base city and I stayed at the Valamar Riviera Hotel, which faces the beautiful Adriatic sea making it clear which colorful part of the country we are talking about here.

O Valamar Riviera Hotel It is ideal for couples, groups or even business travelers. Part of the rooms has a view of the sea and another part has a view of the old city, which is to leave guests in the incredible atmosphere of the place as soon as they wake up.

It is ideal for those who do not intend to spend a lot of time inside the establishment as it has few leisure areas, but that does not mean that the hotel does not need comfort – on the contrary. the region of Istria is that there are many outside activities and it would be a waste to just enjoy the hotel.

Service

The service is very efficient, most of the staff speak English and are always smiling and willing to help with whatever you need. The hotel has wheelchair accessibility, laundry service for a fee, 24-hour reception, bar and restaurant.

They do not have many options for those traveling with children, as it is not the profile of the vast majority of guests and also because of the few leisure areas. As I mentioned before, it is ideal for spending the whole day outside and having plenty of comfort when resting and a beautiful view in the morning!

Directions

The easiest way to get to Porec it is by boat coming from Veneza or other nearby islands. It is a good gateway to start your journey.

The most common and most advisable means of transport for traveling by Istria is to rent a car. I highly recommend that you hire a guide service with transport included if you want a pleasant, complete and informative tour, but there is also the option of renting a vehicle and exploring the region on your own.

If you choose to take a bus at some point, it can drop you off a few meters from the hotel. However, I do not recommend relying on this alone, as the best places to visit in the region are not reachable by public transport.

O Hotel Valamar It is the perfect place for those looking for a place to stay, however, as it is in the best location in the city, less than 30 meters from the sea and with an entrance to the old town just around the corner. Because it is strategically located in this location, it also has a huge variety of restaurants and bars nearby.

Breakfast

It has a free buffet with a lot of variety, including healthy options, for vegetarians and for those with some type of intolerance.

rooms

The rooms are great and everything was up to a 3 to 4 star standard. One part of the rooms has a view of the sea and the other part has a view of the old town, which makes both equally beautiful.

television/internet

The rooms have cable TV for guests and the internet is very good. I had a problem with the wifi signal in my apartment and was changed rooms immediately so there was no more problem.

On one of the nights, we went to dinner on the private island in front of the hotel where the sophisticated Valamar Isabella Island Resort, also from the same hotel chain, but with a much higher standard.

O restaurante do Valamar Isabella Island Resort, as well as the beach that surrounds part of the island, are open to those who are not guests and want to know the place. It is well worth the visit and the food at the restaurant is exceptional!

Stay in Porec and visit Venice
