If you have a favorite musical – and indispensable (by the way) – it's The Lion King Broadway. For 20 years, the show has established itself as one of the biggest hits of major North American productions. The “Lion King” also achieved one of the biggest box office records in the world in musicals throughout this trajectory, seen by more than 90 million people.
So if you are planning a trip to New York or to any country where the show is on, you already know, right? Can't stop watching.
I spent 3 months in New York, studying at NYFA. One of my biggest expectations was to see a Broadway musical. I watched several plays, but “The Lion King” is definitely one of my favorites.
The colors, costumes, actors, lyrics produced by Elton John move and bring out that childhood nostalgia. Timon, Pumbaa and Simba take you with them on an adventure full of charm, laughter and even tears (Who can handle Mufasa's part?). Even if you've seen The Lion King several times, the musical still amazes and amazes.
Don't understand English very well to watch the musical abroad? Don't worry! One way or another, this award-winning musical will delight you – especially for its incredible production!

How much does it cost and where to buy discounted musical tickets?
On average, tickets to Broadway shows can be quite expensive – averaging $220-250 dollars. However, there are ways to get good tickets for around $150 (which helps a lot, doesn't it?).
To save money, a good tip is to buy tickets a few days before the musical on the Civitatis. These tickets are the same ones you can find at the TKTS Booth in New York. However, if you buy it at TKTS Booth you will need to pay IOF.
Secure the best seats at the show and buy your ticket in advance!
Discounted tickets and how to get to the theater:
To get there, take a subway to Times Square and walk to 45th St, on the corner of Broadway. Always try to arrive at least half an hour before the show, to find your seat calmly and not run the risk of being left out.
Remembering that the tip to save is to buy the tickets a few days before the musical through the website of Civitatis which offers heavily discounted last-minute tickets.
Buy your tickets in advance and guarantee an amazing show on the trip.
The Lion King Broadway – The show's trajectory
Produced by Disney Theatrical Productions (directed by Thomas Schumacher), The Lion King won six Tony Awards® in 1998. The awards were: Best Musical, Best Set (Richard Hudson), Best Costume (Julie Taymor), Best Lighting ( Donald Holder), Best Choreography (Garth Fagan) and Best Direction for a Musical.
The show has won more than 70 awards in the art world, including the NY Drama Critics Circle Award for Best Musical, the Grammy®. The Evening Standard Award for Theatrical Event of the Year and the Laurence Olivier Awards for Best Choreography and Costume Design.
Show director, costume designer and mask co-designer Julie Taymor continues to be an integral part of the show's ongoing success. The first woman to win a Tony Award for directing a musical, Taymor oversaw the show's new productions around the world.
The Plot: Is the musical the same as the Disney movie?
The musical is an even more animated – and “real” – version of Disney’s 1994 Oscar-winning film, “The Lion King. The Lion King, tells the story of a young lion prince who lives in the flourishing African Pride Lands. Born into the royal family, precocious cub, Simba, spends his days exploring the sprawling savannah grasslands and idolizing his royal father, Mufasa.
When an unthinkable tragedy, orchestrated by Simba's evil uncle Scar, takes his father's life, Simba flees the Pride Lands, leaving the loss of his father and the life he knew behind him.
Accompanied by two hilarious and unlikely friends (Timon and Pumbaa), Simba starts life anew. But when the weight of responsibility and a desperate plea from the now-ravaged Pride Lands find the grown prince, Simba must confront a formidable enemy and fulfill his destiny to be king. A vibrant and moving tale from Disney's great creatives, The Lion King is a story of love and redemption that no one should miss.
In the musical, all this is interpreted in an artistic, captivating and very moving way.
The Soundtrack: Elton John and Tim Rice know how to thrill.
The Broadway show features music by Elton John and Tim Rice from the Disney movie. In addition, the musical also features three unreleased songs composed by Elton John and Tim Rice. The credits don't just go to the artists, the musical also features additional sound material made by South African Lebo M, Mark Mancina, Jay Rifkin, Julie Taymor and Hans Zimmer.
The musical's sound is a fusion of Western popular music and the distinctive sounds and rhythms of Africa, ranging from the Oscar®-winning song “Can You Feel the Love Tonight” to the haunting ballad “Shadowland”.
And of course, not to mention that you will sing along with Timon and Pumbaa during the iconic “Hakuna Matata”.
What to expect from the musical?
It can create expectations yes, because the musical is to thrill even the most demanding spectators. In España, for example, the songs were adapted by Gilberto Gil and have a delicious swing. In New York, Elton John's adaptations are also amazing – even for those who don't understand English.
Watching the musical in New York is feeling like you're one in the Big Apple from entrance to exit. The lights and excitement of Broadway, the feeling of entering the theater and feeling the grandeur of the show. Sit back and forget about life for a few hours and leave the audience wanting the show to go on.
