Best Neighborhoods to Stay in Berlin

Berliners divide it between “inside the Ring” and “outside the Ring”. This is because the Ringbahn train line is circular and goes around the entire city, being served by the S-Bahn, the urban train. Staying inside the Ring is certainly the best option for any traveller, as you are closer to the center and have easy access to all tourist attractions.

The neighborhoods inside the Ring are Mitte and Kreuzberg, while the others mentioned are cut by the train line and have sections inside and outside its limits.

The region outside the Ring is quieter and transport options are scarcer. There are neighborhoods where there are no trains, only buses, and the wait can be long – and no one deserves to wait for buses in the cold of winter!

Some neighborhoods extend beyond the Ringbahn border, so even if the hotel is in the neighborhood of your choice, check the location carefully to make sure it's closer to downtown.

Also, the area inside the Ring is called Zone A. This factor is important when buying train tickets, as AB tickets are cheaper than those going to zone C, which is on the outskirts of the city.
