Aix En Provence is a small bourgeois city located in the south of France, very charming and also popular with students from all over the country, as it hosts the largest French university, Aix-Marseille.
Aix is an unmissable destination for anyone visiting Provence region and the good part is that one day when Aix En Provence you can get to know a lot about the city!

I have selected thirteen places to visit if you have a few days or just one day to go. Aix En Provence.
you have the first glimpse from the city as soon as you arrive at FOUNTAIN OF THE ROTONDA, the biggest fountain in the city, which looks more like an arrival card, inviting you to discover the city of Aix., as it is next to the tourist office (I believe that many people start tours and visits there) and also for being beginning or end of COURS MIRABEAU, the main and most popular street in the city that takes you to the historic center.
when walking through Cours Mirabeau you will find three of the most popular fountains in the city, the first of which is the FOUNTAIN OF THE NINE CANNONS (the fountain of nine cannons) built in the XNUMXth century. A few meters later you find the HOT WATER FOUNTAIN (the hot spring), where tourists line up to experience the temperature of the spring's water. Both fountains are covered in moss, giving them a very curious look. The third and final source is the KING RENÉ FOUNTAIN, a fountain at the end of the street that bears the statue of the king carrying Muscat grapes, introduced by him in Provence.
Also in Cours Mirabeau, be sure to visit the CAFE THE TWO BOYS, perhaps the most popular cafe and restaurant in town. Built in 1660, it was part of a private hotel and club until the French Revolution in 1789 when two of the club's members were murdered. The place was bought in 1840 by two young men and since then it has become famous for receiving visits from great personalities, such as Paul Cézanne, Pablo Picasso, Winston Churchill, Edith Piaf, Alain Delon and many others.
Very close to there you will find a curious and very beautiful place to photograph, it is the PLACE D'ALBERT, basically facing today, the National History Museum, which was at the time a mansion bought by a very influential family in Aix (the Albertas) in the XNUMXth century. Not satisfied, Jean Baptiste d'Albert also bought the front block of his mansion with the intention of building a place similar to the popular Royal Squares (squares) that were being built at the same time in Paris. From there came the Place D'Albertas, which today is a great place to observe the architecture and baroque characteristics of the time.
very tasty in Aix are the street markets, there are a lot of them, but I visited two: MARCHE RICHELME, every morning you find the provencal market na Place Richelme, eo PLACE DE LA MADELEINE MARKET which opens in the mornings, on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Sundays in Place de la Madeleine or also Place des Precheurs. There you find the CHURCH OF THE MADELEINE, a Roman Catholic church that was built in the 1383th century after the demolition of a Gothic-style church built in the 1465th century, which was burned down in XNUMX rebuilt and then torn down in XNUMX.
Very close to the market Place Richelme is the PLACE DE L'HÔTEL DE VILLE, where the popular city hall building is located Hôtel de Ville and the clock tower, the one that has undergone changes and renovations over time and which also served as a military observation point, which reminded me a lot of the clock tower in the city of Bern in Switzerland that I visited recently.
In the same square also happens in the mornings the flower market and the popular grain market, the city post office is also there, which is actually a very popular square where many events take place.
Next to the city hall is the CARDERS PLACE, a square that ended up being my favorite attraction on the A day in Aix En Provence, it is full of bars and restaurants and very lively. In fact, Aix at night is quite lively on all sides, as there are many students, and night more students is an equation that matches.
The square is very charming and being there at the end of the day to have a drink brought me the feeling of satisfaction and joy of being there and getting to know a lot about A day in Aix En Provence.
Last on the list was AIX CATHEDRAL, the cathedral is very close to the Place des Cardeurs, a cathedral that mixes different elements and styles (Romanesque, Gothic and Neo-Gothic).
The most beautiful and curious thing is that the legend says that it was built on top of a Roman temple that was created and dedicated to the Deus Apollo.
So if you're traveling or planning a trip through Provence, be sure to get lost for a day in the historic center of this super charming and culturally rich little town. A day in Aix En Provence it's a must!
