These sights will make you include Bogotá in your next travel destination and still fall in love with this amazing capital.

Getting to know the sights of Bogotá is gaining more and more space in the travel itinerary and is already one of the most interesting capitals to visit in South America. Its violent and insecure past is behind it and today the city has become a destination that overflows with history, art and culture.

In addition to being the capital of Colombia, Bogotá is also the country's economic and administrative center. Reading this way, it seems that this is a square city and without many attractions. But don't be fooled, allow yourself to know and travel through this destination that will conquer you.

Best tourist attractions in Bogotá

La Candelaria and the Historic Center

The neighborhood of La Candelaria, as the historic center is known, is the main tourist spot in Bogotá. You can spend the day walking the streets and always see something new.

A good starting point for any tour of the capital is Bogotá's Plaza Bolívar. There are located important buildings such as the Palace of Justice, the Congress, the City Hall and the Main Cathedral of Bogotá. You can already see the grandeur of this place. Be sure to visit.

Bogotá is a city that breathes and inspires art and culture, strolling through the narrow streets around Plaza Chorro de Quevedo is a must. Colorful walls, which tell stories and portray reality. Try the Graffiti Tour – often offered by hotels and travel agencies. I didn't get to do this tour, but it is certainly very interesting and yields good photos.

Bogotá Gold Museum

The Gold Museum of Bogotá is one of the most important museums in the Colombian capital. It was founded in 1938 by Banco da República, with the aim of protecting national heritage and history.

There are more than 54 thousand items that help to tell the life and cultural history of the people who lived in the current Colombian territory. In 2008, it underwent a renovation, expanded its space and reorganized itself into four permanent exhibition rooms and two rooms open to new arts and artists:

  • "metal working” – Discover the process and benefits of working with metals.
  • "people and gold” – A journey from north to south, with the proposal to understand and learn more about the culture and organization as a society of pre-Hispanic peoples.
  • "The offering” – Room that presents objects related to ceremonies and the art of offerings.
  • "Cosmology and symbolism” – Myths and symbolisms, pieces that contributed to give meaning to the way of life and organization of ancient peoples.

Botero Museum

Fernando Botero is a Colombian painter and sculptor, born in Medellín. In the 2000s, Botero donated part of his works and also his private collection to Banco de la República – with items by other artists, and it was with these pieces that the current Botero Museum was founded.

A total of 208 works were donated, including paintings and sculptures, 123 of which were their own authorship and another 85 by international artists. Today, the Botero Museum is considered one of the five most important public art collections in Latin America and one of the main tourist attractions in Bogotá.

An interesting and relaxed museum, which attracts an audience of all ages and is well worth a visit. This can be a great opportunity to see not only Fernando Botero's art, but also great and renowned artists such as Picasso, Renoir, Dali and Monet.
